Objective:
Develop a solid understanding of the core features available in Maya and learn its UI and how to navigate within the three-dimensional space.

Method:
Use the “Getting Started with Maya” Unit of this online tutorial to discern the maya UI and gain an understanding of how to navigate the space, create projects, and perform functions using some of Maya’s core tools. Do not work onto the Basic Modeling unit.

Turn In:
Use the snipping tool to captures images of you working along with the video. Explain what you have learned while following along with the tutorial.

Objective:
Identify and develop a comprehension of the importance of documentation in game design and development.

Method:
Read this article by Ernest Adams.

Turn In:
Create a blog posts discussing the points made in the article and discuss your thoughts on the validity of each. Be ready to discuss in class tomorrow.

Objective:
Gain an understanding of how presentations are created in Microsoft PowerPoint.

Method:
Use this tutorial to learn how to build, edit, and share PowerPoint presentations for a number of uses.

Turn In:
At the end of each unit, save out your work and add to your google drive folder. When completely done, save as LASTNAME_(ASSIGNMENT NAME) into your H: drive, and upload to your shared google drive folder.

Objective:
Identify common game genres and discuss their changes over the history of the industry.

Method:
Certain genres are found more frequently during certain time periods and typically built using one kind of environment (i.e. 2D top-down or 3D ground-up) than another. Write a brief paper explaining which game environment each genre typically works best on and why. Discuss how hardware and other aspects might have played a role in the evolution of different genres over the past fourty years. Try to answer the following question: how do the environment’s features (e.g. graphic style, mechanics, player controls) and the way that it is used facilitate or hinder the gameplay in each genre?

Turn In:
When finished with your short paper over game environment and genre, submit it to Schoology and post a PDF version to your blog. It is due by Friday, September 28.

Discover how to work with tables, fields, queries, and forms in MS Access.

Method:
Use Microsoft Access and this course on Pluralsight to learn how to work with databases in MS Access.

Turn In:
You will submit snips of your work into the shared google folder.

Objective:
Identify and define the terminology associated with databases.

Method:
Use your book to identify and define the listed key terms in Ch. 15 & 16.

Turn In:
You will submit a word document with the defined key terms to your shared google folder.

Objective:
Create and analyze spreadsheets incorporating advanced features.

Method:
Use Microsoft Excel to follow the directions for Activity 4 Keeping a Daily Log in your book on pg. 205.

Turn In:
When completed, make sure to share the correctly formatted spreadsheet with formulas shown using the shared google drive.

Objective:
Gain a working understanding of the After Effects User Interface and the art of Motion Graphics.

Method:
Work through the provided course on www.pluarlsight.com to learn the basic fundamentals of After Effects CC.

Turn In:
Post screen snips at least every other day to your blog as you progress through the course. Give a summary of work completed since last blog post.

Objective:
Create and analyze spreadsheets incorporating advanced features.

Method:
Use Microsoft Excel to follow the directions for Activity 3 Landscape in your book on pg. 203.

Turn In:
When completed, make sure to share the correctly formatted spreadsheet with formulas shown using the shared google drive.

Objective:
Identify and discuss important people and events that played a role in the development of animation.

Method:
Introduction through teacher led discussion, view multiple shorts that have impacted the industry throughout history.

Turn In:
Choose either a noted animator or character from the world of animation and create a 3-5 slide presentation over their impact/importance on the development of the industry. Include information about their life, career, studio affiliations, and overall impact.

Save the presentation in PDF format and post to your blog. These will not be presented in class.
