Objective:
Expand knowledge of character animation in Maya.

Method:
When your character is modeled and rigged correctly with constraints and controls you need to create one animation cycle that represents each one of the twelve principles of animation. Make sure to use the techniques that you have learned over the last two years to help you through the process. Feel free to use tutorials to help you work through the process.

    Twelve Principles of Animation:

  • Straight Ahead Action and Pose to Pose
  • Follow Through and Overlapping Action

Turn In:
Post composited videos of your completed labeled animation cycles to your blog and discuss the process of the animation and what challenges you had to overcome in order to make it work.

Objective:
Design, model, UV, and rig a custom character for use in later projects.

Method:
Use your completed character orthographics to model your custom character. After the character is modeled, UV and Rig the character.

Turn In:
Make sure to post daily progress to your blog and explain the steps you are taking.

Objective:
Design and model a custom character for use in later projects.

Method:
Create your own custom character. Begin the process by sketching out 5- 10 thumbnails of different character designs. Once completed, set down with instructor to discuss which one to proceed with.

Method:
We will discuss the course syllabus, get to know each other through the Information Sheet, and get signed up for the necessary class accounts.

  • (2017-2018) Animation III Syllabus – Return signed Parent Information & Acknowledgement sheet from syllabus by the first Wednesday.
  • Student Info. Sheet – Hand-in completed Student Information Sheet when asked for it during class.
  • Remind_Invite – Use phone to sign up for class Remind account.
  • Blog Setup – Use the directions to setup a class blog that you will post playblasts and journal entries on.
